Two Emergency Defibrillators Donated to Woodstock
Woodstock, Ct, May 14, 2009: Two state-of-the-art automated external defibrillator (AED) devices were recently donated to the Town of Woodstock by an anonymous local donor. First Selectman, Allan Walker, and Town Beach Director, Allan Kelly, were on hand to receive this extremely generous gift. First Selectman Walker stated, “It is incredible to imagine that this charitable gift may someday save lives in our Town.”
One AED device will be placed year-round at Camp Nahaco. The other AED device will be shared between the Woodstock Town Beach during the summer months and the Woodstock Public Works Department for the remainder of the year. Town Beach Director, Allan Kelly, is a Red Cross Certified Instructor who will donate his time to prepare and train specialized groups at each facility as to proper use. AED devices are already in place in the Woodstock Town Hall and the Woodstock Public Schools.
AED devices recognize and treat certain lethal heart rhythms during cardiac arrest by delivering an electrical shock to the patient. The AED device’s auditory and visual prompts assist first responders delivering treatment. AED devices have been shown to decrease mortality when used by trained persons and used in conjunction with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
First Selectman Walker expressed his most sincere gratitude for this life-saving gift saying, “Woodstock residents are fortunate that someone would donate such important medical technology to our town. There is no greater gift than providing someone a second chance at life.”
