Food and Fuel Drive Raises $3,045 for Woodstock Residents
Woodstock, Ct, November 6, 2009: Members of the Muddy Brook Fire Department, Woodstock Volunteer Fire Association, and Bungay Fire Brigade raised $2,729 and collected over 14-15 cases of food for low-income Woodstock residents as part of the “Woodstock Helping Woodstock” initiative! Funds were collected during a “Boot Drive” on October 17 and 18, 2009. Fire Fighters filled boots during the Annual Fine Arts and Crafts Festival with the support and help of several local businesses. Food items were collected at the Woodstock Volunteer Fire Association on Route 169. Sweet Evalina’s, The Christmas Barn, Java Jive, and Woodstock Orchards all participated by displaying collection boots on their store counters.
The Election Day food and fuel drive on November 3, 2009 was also a great success. Approximately 500 pounds of non-perishable food items were given to the Thompson Ecumenical Empowerment Group (TEEG) and $316 was raised to provide fuel assistance for Woodstock residents who apply for funds through TEEG. Information about Woodstock Helping Woodstock’s food and fuel drive can be found in the main lobby of the Woodstock Town Hall during business hours. Future events include the Annual Firefighter’s Toy Drive on November 14 at the Woodstock Volunteer Fire Association on Route 169 and another canned food and fuel drive at the polling area on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 for the Referendum.
Residents are urged to generously support these important initiatives. Please contact the First Selectman’s office at 860-928-0208 x336 for more information. |
