First Selectman as Ex Officio member of Town Boards and Commissions The First Selectman, based on State Statute Section 7-12a, is an ex-officio member of all town boards, commissions and committees. This ex-officio status allows the First Selectman to participate in discussion at meetings, including executive session. The First Selectman does not have any voting rights and cannot be included when determining if there are enough members present to constitute a quorum. The First Selectman's involvement at various town meetings is an opportunity for increased understanding within the local government. It does not diminish the power and authority of the various boards, commissions, and committees.
