Trips & Programs
The purpose of the Recreation Commission to promote the general welfare of the community by providing recreational activities for children and other citizens of the Town of Woodstock.
The full Recreation Commission meets monthly, usually on the second Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. Special Subcommittee meetings are scheduled as needed. Agendas and minutes are available at the Town Hall and on this website. Meetings are open to the public.
The Recreation Commission is a five member group created by the Board of Selectmen. The terms of office are two years running concurrently with the Board of Selectmen each municipal election.

Woodstock Fuel Assistance Donations: The Woodstock Recreation Commission is pleased to announce that we were able to donate $1,000 from the Memorial Day 10K Road Race proceeds to the Woodstock Fuel Assistance Fund. We donated an additional $700 to the Woodstock Fuel Assistance Fund from the proceeds of our 6th Annual Town Wide Tag Sale. Thank you to our sponsors for those two events, and to everyone who participated.
New Recreation Park Facility: Located on Senexet Village Road (Behind the Beeches Real Estate off Route 171): Soccer field, walking trail, and basketball court. For more information contact the Recreation Department.

2019 RECREATION PROGRAMS
Yoga Summer Session 2 will be held at the Woodstock Town Hall, lower level room 1. Classes will take place on Monday evenings from 6:30-7:30 pm on the following dates: July 29, August 5, 12, 19, 26, September 9, 16, 23. Class will be held at the WMS Music Room on September 9. The cost is $64 for 8 classes, $35 for 4 classes, or a drop in rate of $10 per class. Click here for the Summer 2 Yoga registration form.
Preseason Skills Volleyball Camp: This camp is a great opportunity to practice skills and scrimmage to get ready for the upcoming volleyball season. Camp will take place in the Woodstock Academy Gymnasium (North Campus) August 19, 20, 21. Cost: $75. Family Discounts available. Open to students entering grades 9-12 When: 5:30 pm-8:30 pm. Squirt Soccer: An introduction to soccer for 3 and 4 year olds. Players will have 30 minutes to learn simple drills, easy ball handling skills and most of all just have fun learning the sport of soccer. Practices will run Saturdays September 7th through October 12th from 9:00-9:30am at the Woodstock Elementary School Soccer Field. Registration fee is $25 per player with a $35 max per family. Youth Intro to Golf: Head Golf Professional Mike Jezierski at Raceway Golf Club will be teaching the basics of golf in this fun and relaxed program. Students will learn the proper swing mechanics, putting, and strategy to become a successful golfer. This program is open to everyone ages 8 to 16 looking to learn the exciting game of golf. Lessons will run Tuesdays, September 17th through October 8th from 5:00-6:00pm at Raceway Golf Club. Cost is $60. Click here to download a registration form.
W.R.E.C.K: Where Recreation and Exploration Catapult Kids is an after school gym program where kids participate in a variety of fun active games. These games include, but are not limited to; basketball, dodgeball, capture the flag, flag football, and variations of tag. This fall we will be hosting two 4-week sessions on Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30pm in the Woodstock Middle School Gym. The first session will run September 19th through October 10th and the second session will run October 17th through November 14th (no class on November 7th). The program is open to anyone in 5th through 8th grade and the cost to attend is $36 per session. Space is limited to 15 kids. Click here to download a registration form.
Adult Co-Ed Basketball: Join us at the Woodstock Middle School Monday nights from 7:00-9:00pm (8:30-10:30pm during youth basketball season) on September 16th through June 8th for open gym basketball. If there is a holiday or half day on a Monday, we will play on Wednesday night of that week. This free program is open to anyone 18 and older. Click here to download a registration form.
Adult Co-Ed Volleyball: Join us at the Woodstock Middle School Tuesday nights from 7:30-10:30pm (8:30-10:30pm during youth basketball season) on September 17th through June 9th for a fun night of volleyball. There is no volleyball during school breaks and holidays. This program is open to all skills levels of players who are 18 and older. There is an annual fee of $10 per player. Dog Obedience Training: In these classes Donna Savoie from Pack of Paws LLC will teach the important behaviors to make your dog a great companion. This program will meet once a week for 6 weeks and is open to all dogs 5 months or older. The first session will run Tuesdays, September 17th - October 22nd from 3:30-4:30pm and the second session will run Saturdays, November 2nd - December 7th from 10-11am. Both sessions will be held at the Soccer Field off Senexet Village Road. Cost is $96 per session. For your dog please bring a 6-foot leash (no retractable leashes), harness/collar, mat or towel, water, and plenty of treats. Babysitter Training Course: The purpose of this course is to provide youth ages 11 and up information and skills necessary to provide safe responsible care for children in the absence of parents or guardians. This training will help participants develop skills in critical areas: leadership, safety and safe play, basic care, First Aid, CPR (infant, child, adult), and professionalism. Instructor Jeannine Spink will be leading this training on November 13th and 14th from 5-8pm at the Town Hall lower level room 1. In order to be eligible for certification the participant must attend both classes. Cost is $65 and space is limited to 12 students on a first come, first served basis. Twilight Concert Series
June 7: Woodstock Academy Jazz Band, Stattic, & Woodstock Rail Line. The Woodstock Academy Jazz Band will start the night off playing a mix of old and new jazz music that will leave your toes tapping and your soul swinging, Stattic a small jazz ensemble will perform next. Finish the night with Woodstock Rail Line, a local favorite that explores today's Americana/Roots music with a blend of rock and ballads.
July 12: Strange Alliance. Specializing in rock covers from across the decades, with 3 and 4 part vocal harmonies, this band is sure to get you up and moving with their classic dance rock from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. From Classic Rock to R&B to Alternative and Blues, there is something for everyone. (Rain date August 16)
August 9: Al Fenton Big Band. The Al Fenton Big Band is a renowned ensemble of 20 accomplished and dedicated jazz musicians. Thrilling audiences throughout Connecticut, the band prides itself on its technical abilities, energy, and musical versatility. Their mixed repertoire combines music from the golden era of swing to modern big-band arrangements of contemporary tunes. (Rain date Thursday August 22).
All concerts are FREE and located at Roseland Cottage, aka the "Pink House" 556 Route 169 in Woodstock. Bring a blanket. chairs, and have a picnic out on the lawn. Concerts go from 7-8:30 pm.
Wii Gaming for Woodstock Seniors: The Wii Gaming System is a fun, interactive program that promotes healthy lifestyles through physical active play. Games include tennis, bowling, golf, and dancing. Games are played on a big screen with the use of hand held controllers. The cost is FREE. Please contact the recreation director to schedule your introductory session. All participants must fill out a waiver of liability prior to using the game system. Click here to download the waiver.
Community Kitchen - Every Monday at noon at the First Congregational Church of Woodstock there is a community kitchen event. Local churches take turns each week preparing and serving a free meal for all guests who come. Meals are not served on Holidays, and when Woodstock schools are cancelled.
Tai Chi - Every Tuesday and Thursday there is a free, informal Tai Chi class offered at the East Woodstock Congregational Church from 10-11 am.
2019 Bus Trips
New York City Bus Trip: Join the Pomfret and Woodstock Recreation Department on a trip to NYC on Saturday, November 30th. Bus will leave Putnam DMV (Kennedy Drive) Commuter lot at 6:30am and return home at approximately 10:30pm. Drop off and pick up location in NYC will be the Empire State Building 34th Street.
